ABOUT

Toothpaste Records was founded in 2018 to create international releases for the best artists in the music scene in Japan.
The label was founded by Johnny Hartford, music freak, DJ, and manager at Sister Ray in London, one of the most visited and famous record stores in the world and Philippe Boehm, founder of Tokyo-based label and design studio Alegori.
Alegori have been working with artists from the indie scene in Tokyo, designing and creating albums such as Suiyobi No Campanella’s “Jugem Je T’aime” LP and the collaborative album between two legends of Japanese music: Hijokaidan and the hugely influential Jun Togawa.
The first release on the label, Tentenko’s debut international release, was universally praised by critics and fans and made the “Best Albums Of 2018” lists at VICE/Noisey, Vinyl Factory and Sister Ray.
